Box Score 2 Claremont, FL: The Ramapo College softball defeated #25 Tufts University and Hope College on their final day at the NTC Spring Games. The Roadrunners improve to 11-1 overall.
In game one against Tufts,
Danielle Rothenberger put Ramapo up 2-0 when she ripped her fourth home run of the season, plating
Tiffany Fischer who reached on a single earlier in the inning. Ramapo added one run in the fourth as
Amanda Kent walked to lead off the inning and later scored on Fischer's single extending their lead to 3-0.
Tufts would score their lone run in their final at bat with the bases loaded. Brianna Keenan scored on Emily Beinecke's foul out to right field.
Ramapo starting pitcher,
Lauren Shaw was able to get the final out of the inning on a fly ball to right field, as the Jumbos left two runners on base. Shaw raised her record to 6-1 overall in the complete game win with six strikeouts while she scattered seven hits.
Fischer was 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI while Rothenberger posted two RBI.
In game two, Ramapo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with back to back RBI's from
Taylor Boffalo and
Kelsey Higgins. Hope scored one run in the bottom half of the inning before they took the lead in the second, scoring two runs for a 3-2 lead.
The Roadrunners came back to tie the game, 3-3 in the top of the third inning.
Jaclyn Lima recorded an infield single and stole second base before Boffalo ripped an RBI single to center field allowing Lima to score. Ramapo scored the eventual game winning run in the fifth inning. Rothenberger drilled an RBI single to center field, plating Lima who led off the inning with a bunt single.
Ramapo added an insurance run in the seventh when Lima singled up the middle, stole second base and later scored when Rothenberger got tied up in a run down. Rothenberger was tagged out as the third out of the inning but Lima had crossed home plate before the final out was made, 5-3.
Nicole Schneider raised her record to 3-0 in the complete game win. She struck out one and gave up nine hits. Lima was perfect at the plate, 4-4 while she scored four runs. Rothenberger, Higgins each collected two hits in the game for Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Mount Saint Vincent on March 28th for a non-conference double header starting at 3:30 PM.
