Box Score 2 Claremont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team earned two wins today to raise their overall record to 4-0 on the season. They defeated New Paltz University (0-1), 10-6 and Benedictine University (0-2), 7-0.
In game one against New Paltz, the Roadrunners would score the first run of the game in the top of the first inning as
Tiffany Fischer ripped a double to the centerfield gap and later scored on an infield throwing error. Ramapo scored six runs in the third inning, with the bases loaded and one out
Janet Brown's fielder's choice was mishandled allowing
Danielle Rothenberger and
Caitlin Smith to score on the play; both reached base on singles earlier in the inning. Back to back walks from
Cara Maloney and
Amanda Kent pushed across another run before
Krystal Kmiechick recorded a RBI fielder's choice, plating Brown.
Jaclyn Lima put down a perfect bunt allowing Kent to score before Lima stole second and Kmiechick raced home on the throw by the catcher for the Roadrunners' sixth run of the inning to go up, 7-0.
New Paltz got one back in the third on an infield ground out, 7-1 before Ramapo scored three runs in the fourth. Rothenberger drilled a line drive home run to right centerfield to lead off the inning, 8-1. With two outs and the bases loaded, Smith and Maloney would cross home plate on an infield throwing error, 10-1. The Hawks scored three runs on four hits on two Ramapo errors to shrink the lead, 10-4. They added two more runs in the sixth before Ramapo recorded the final out of the inning, keeping the 10-6 lead.
Lauren Shaw entered the game in the top of the seventh to record her first save of the season as New Paltz brought the tying run on deck later in the inning.
Nicole Schneider (1-0) earned the win for Ramapo as she went five innings, scattering seven hits and four runs (three earned) while recording three strikeouts.
In game two against Benedictine University, Shaw (2-0) struck out seven in the complete game shutout as the Roadrunners won, 7-0. Ramapo wasted no time scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Lima walked and stole second before Fischer ripped a double down the left field line, 1-0. With the bases loaded and one out
Lisa Orlando picked up an RBI fielder's choice, scoring Rothenberger before
Kim LaPenta singled through the right side of the infield plating
Kelsey Higgins. Orlando would come around to score on an infield throwing error to go up 4-0.
Ramapo added one run in the second before adding two runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. In the fifth, Smith walked and was advanced to second on Higgins' sacrifice bunt before she and LaPenta came around to score on
Kristen Wilson's double to left centerfield.
The Roadrunners were led by Fischer and LaPenta as they both went 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Ramapo returns to action at the NTC Spring Games on Monday when they take on Babson College at 5:00 PM and Wellesley College at 7:00 PM.
