LADY ROADRUNNERS FALL TO SCARLET RAIDERS, 71-55

Box Score Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball fell to NJAC North rival Rutgers Newark University, 71-55. The Roadrunners now stand at 15-9 overall, 5-7 in the conference while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 16-7, 6-5.

The Scarlet Raiders forced 14 turnovers by the Roadrunners in the first half as they took a 33-22 lead into the locker room. Ramapo got on the board first in the game off a basket by Lindsey Gripenburg before Rutgers Newark made a three pointer to take a one point lead, 3-2 (17:45), a lead they never gave back in the first half. Alexa Ryan would make a three of her own to come within one, 8-7 with 15:15 on the clock before the Scarlet Raiders extended their lead back to five, 12-7. The Roadrunners would once again cut the lead to two, 19-17 on a made basket by Alex Milne (6:23) before Newark would go on a 11-3 run over the next five minutes to take a 30-20 lead as Kendra Johnson made a layup off a steal with 1:49 on the clock. Ryan would make two fouls shots to come within eight before ShaQuanna Marshall hit a three to take a 11 point lead, 33-22.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders took their biggest lead of the game, 51-25 with 12:02 on the clock on a layup by Johnson before the Roadrunners went on a 19-5 run to cut the lead to 12 with 5:17 on the clock capped off by two made foul shots by Gripenburg. They came within 11, 61-50 with 1:47 left in the game before the Scarlet Raiders finished the game on a 10-5 run for the 71-55 win.

The Roadrunners shot 39% (20-51) from the field in the game while they shot 60% (12-20) from the foul line. The Scarlet Raiders made seven shots from beyond the three point line to Ramapo's three. Ryan led the Roadrunners with 18 points as she went 6-10 from the foul line while grabbing seven rebounds. Jerkovich dished out a team high eight assists while scoring nine points while Milne and Moore each posted eight points.

Johnson posted a team high 30 points for the Scarlet Raiders while Marshall added 16 and Jasmine Daniels added 12 of her own.

The Roadrunners will return to action when they host NJAC rival Montclair State University on February 15th at 5:30pm. Prior to the game the Ramapo will honor their three seniors.
