Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark University tonight at the Bradley Center, 57-52. The Roadrunners now stand at 6-2, 2-3 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 6-3, 4-2 in the conference.
The Roadrunners came from behind in the first half to go into the locker room with a 28-23 lead. The Scarlet Raiders took their biggest lead of the half, 14-7 (10:39) when Maria Simmons drained a three pointer. Ramapo then went on a 10-0 run to take a three point lead, 17-14 with 5:36 to go capped off by a made jumper by
Micaela Moore. The two teams traded baskets before
Jackie Jerkovich nailed a jumper from inside the paint off a dish from
Faith Flannery to take a 21-18 lead (3:25) before Laura Shakiri hit a three pointer for Rutgers-Newark to tie the game at 21 with three minutes on the clock.
Tierney Henderson hit a jumper with 2:11 on the clock to go up by two before Jasmine Daniels tied the game for the third time of the game with 1:51, 23-23. Ramapo then closed out the half with a 5-0 run. Moore sank a jumper while
Anna Fucci hit one of her foul shots to take a, 26-23 lead with 48 seconds to go. Henderson made two foul shots with four seconds left to take a 28-23 lead.
In the first half Ramapo shot 40% (12-30) from the field and 60% (3-5) from the charity stripe. The Scarlet Raiders shot 34% (9-26) from the field and 50% (3-6) from the line.
In the second half the Roadrunners went up by four with 14:03 on the clock on a made basket by
Kerrie Kosakowski off an assist from Jerkovich. Rutgers-Newark went on a 9-0 run that was capped off by a three point play by Sharee Gordon as she sank her foul shot with 11:29, 37-32 in favor of the Scarlet Raiders. Ramapo would go on a 9-2 run of their own to cut the lead to one, 41-42 as Fucci sank a three pointer with 7:28 on the clock.
The Scarlet Raiders started to pull away and led by as many as five three times down the stretch before they took their biggest lead, 55-49 with seven seconds left in the game. Flannery sank a three pointer of her own from just over mid-court with one second remaining before the Scarlet Raiders sank two foul shots to preserve the road victory, 57-52.
Three players scored in double figures for the Scarlet Raiders. Jewell Palmer and Howard sank 15 points a piece while Simmons added 11 points. Howard posted a double-double with 17 rebounds. The team shot 35% (18-51) from the field and 65% (17-26) from the charity stripe.
For the Roadrunners, Moore and Milne each scored ten points while Moore added ten rebounds for a double double. Flannery added seven points and five rebounds while Jerkovich contributed with a team high seven assists and six points. Ramapo shot 35% (20-56) from the field and 60% (9-15) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners returns to action when they travel to the 2012 ECAC Holiday Basketball Invitational in Orlando, FL. They will take on Immaculata University on December 28th at 5:00 pm.
