Susan Hayes led the Ramapo College women's soccer team over NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University today at the Athletic Center, 7-1. The Roadrunners improve to 2-4-2 overall, 1-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 2-7 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Hayes finished the day with a hat trick, and two assists in the win. Hayes scored back to back goals in a span of 33 seconds to get Ramapo on the board 2-0 in the 19th minute of the first half. Liana Abreu, the Scarlet Raiders' leading scorer, took a pass from Margeaux Hedley and hit the back of the net for her 11th goal (34:02) of the season.
Samantha Belfer scored a unassisted goal, her first of the year, just before halftime (44:23), to put the Roadrunners up 3-1.
Ramapo scored four goals in the second half to extend their lead. Captain
Erica Kunzig ripped a shot from 20 yards out, her first of the year to take a 4-1 lead. Kunzig then assisted on
Rachael Viscusi's goal (76:35) before Hayes added her second assist of the day on
Melanie Bertoli's second goal of the season (77:03). Hayes would complete the hat trick with a goal at 83:34 to cap off the scoring for Ramapo, 7-1.
Talia Auslin stopped seven shots while Ramapo dominated 29-13 in shots in the game. They also held a 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Ramapo will return to action on September 28th when they travel to NJAC rival William Paterson University at 7:00 pm.
