Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team fell to #4 Richard Stockton College today, 1-0 in the 2011 ECAC Softball Tournament before the Roadrunners came back to defeat #6 Hunter College, 9-1 in five innings. Ramapo advances to Sunday's elimination game when they go up against host #4 Stockton at 11:00 AM.
In the first game of the day against the Osprey's, Ramapo fell 1-0. Jessica Goncalves led off the third inning with a single to first base before she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Joey Affilitto. During the play, Goncalves tried to advance to third base and Ramapo was called for defensive interference allowing her to score.
The next four innings ended up a pitcher's duel with Ramapo's
Lauren Shaw and Stockton's Michelle Pietrocola. Shaw fired a complete game, scattering five hits while striking out eight in the loss as she fell to 5-2. Pietrocola fired a one hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks in the complete game win as she raised her record to 7-2 overall.
In their first elimination game, Ramapo defeated #6 Hunter College, 9-1 in five innings.
Lyndsay Buehler raised her record to 12-3 as she surrendered three hits and struck out six in the complete game win.
Ramapo scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Stephanie Malgeri ripped a double to left field with two outs to score
Caitlin Smith and
Janet Brown. Smith and Brown singled to reach base earlier in the inning to reach base.
Ramapo scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a grand slam by
Amanda Kent to take a 7-0 lead. Hunter scored one unearned run in the third before Ramapo came back to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 9-1 eight-run rule win.
In the fifth,
Kelsey Higgins ripped a line drive single to center field before
Krystal Kmiechick placed a bunt single down the third base line. They two runners moved up on a wild pitch before
Caitlin Smith ripped a double to left field, plating the game winning runs.
Smith led Ramapo with a 3-4 day while scoring two runs and knocking in three RBI while Kent drove in four RBI (1-2) and Malgeri was 2-3 with two RBI. Brown finished the game 2-3 with one run scored while Higgins was 2-3 with two runs scored.
