RAMAPO DOWNS JOHN JAY, 18-4

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team raised their record to 14-3 with a 18-4 non-conference victory over John Jay College. The Bloodhounds fall to 5-16 on the year.

Ramapo scored all the runs they would need in the second inning for a 6-0 lead. Matthew Hancock ripped a leadoff triple to center field before Dan Mauriello would push Hancock across the plate with an infield groundout. The Roadrunners then scored five runs with two outs in the inning. Marco Carolla singled and stole second before John Capuano single up the middle. Kevin Knox then picked up two RBI with a hard hit single to center field as he advanced to second on the throw home. Christian Spurr then hit a double down the left field line, scoring Knox and Joseph Somma who walked earlier in the inning.

Knox roped a triple to center field to lead off the fourth inning and he came around to score on Somma's double to left field. Spurr then cracked a home run over the left field wall to put the Roadrunners up 9-0. John Jay scored three runs in the top of the fifth before Ramapo added four runs to their lead in the bottom half of the inning, 13-4.

John Jay added one run in the sixth on a infield ground out by John Paul Zinser before Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Carolla knocked in Mauriello and Matt Buragina with a double down the left field line, 15-4. The Roadrunners added two runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth for a 18-4 lead. James Knight (1-0) picked up the win for Ramapo as he worked two innings of relief, striking out two with no walks.

Knox finshed the day 2-4 with three runs scored and three RBI with two walks while Somma was 4-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Spurr knocked in four RBI with a 2-3 performance at the plate, scoring three runs. Mauriello was 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and Carolla was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to NJAC rival Montclair State University on Thursday at 3:30pm.
