RAMAPO FALLS TO TCNJ IN TWO ONE RUN GAMES

Mahwah, NJ: The College of New Jersey softball team swept the final NJAC double header of the season with a pair of one run games over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Lions improve to 24-12, 10-8 in the conference while the Roadrunners fall to 26-8, 12-6 in the conference.

Ramapo and TCNJ both clinched spots in the upcoming NJAC softball tournament, the bracket will be released later tonight.

In game one, with the score knotted at one, Katelyn Congilose, ripped her first home run of the season to put the Lions in the lead 2-1.

Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Caitlin Smith drilled a pitch up the middle into centerfield allowing Janet Brown to score from third base. Brown led off the inning with a single to center field and advanced to third on a sac bunt by Kelsey Higgins and single to right field by Stephanie Malgeri.

TCNJ would tie the game in the top of the sixth inning when Liz Huttner ripped a single to right field and Ashley Sogluizzo scored from second base, she reached base on a single down the left field line earlier in the inning. The Roadrunners put the tying run on base in the final two innings but could not push across the run.

Lauren Fitzsimmons (8-3) picked up the win for the Lions as she struck out three and walked two while scattering six hits.

Lyndsay Buehler (11-3) struck out four without walking a batter while she scattered six hits. Smith was the lone Roadrunner with a multi-hit game; she was 2-3 with one RBI.

In game two, the Lion's scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep, 1-0.

Kelly Hommen led off the inning with a double down the left field line before the Roadrunners intentionally walked Huttner with no outs in the inning. Both runner's moved up on a ground out before Congilose ripped a single up the middle past the pitcher allowing pinch runner Nicole Brodbeck to scamper home before Ramapo's Amanda Kent could fire the ball home.

Alex Carisone improved to 9-5 for the Lions, she struck out one and walked two while only giving up three hits.

Deanna Giordano (10-6) struck out eight in the loss while she scattered five hits for Ramapo.

The Roadrunners honored their four seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Congratulations and Good Luck to Deanna Giordano, Stephanie Malgeri, Jaclyn Giangrande and Lyndsay Buehler.
