Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC double header against New Jersey City University today, 4-0 and 15-0 in five innings. The Roadrunners improve to 22-6, 8-4 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 11-21, 0-12 overall.
Lyndsay Buehler (10-2) fired a complete game shutout as she scattered four hits and recorded a season high 11 strikeouts while walking three. Ashley Schrripa got the Roadrunners on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run over the left field wall, her first of the year. In the third inning,
Amanda Kent singled to left field and advanced to second on a throwing error by NJCU before she moved to third on a sac bunt. With two outs
Danielle Rothenberger cracked her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence.
Janet Brown then singled before
Stephanie Malgeri doubled to left center field to put runner's at the corners for Ramapo. Schirripa then recorded her second RBI of the game with a hard hit single past the shortstop plating Brown, 4-0.
The Ramapo defense and Buehler held the Gothic Knights to only two hits the rest of the game as Buehler induced a pop fly out and two strikeouts to end the game in the seventh inning. Higgins and Schirripa each went 2-3 in the game while Schirripa scored one run and knocked in two.
In game two, Ramapo batting as the away team, scored six runs in the top of the first inning and followed with at least two or more runs in the next three innings en route to a 15-0 win.
Lauren Shaw, this week's NJAC pitcher of the week, fired a complete game four hitter with struck out six and walked none raising her recorded to 4-0 on the year.
The Roadrunners scored six runs on five hits in the first inning. Rothenberger singled through the left side with the bases loaded as Kent scored to make it 1-0, Kent led off the inning with a single to center field. After recording one out, Malgeri reached on a infield error, which allowed everyone to be safe and
Tiffany Fischer to cross home plate with the second run of the inning. Schirripa then ripped a single through the left side as Rothenberger scored before
Kelsey Higgins cleared the bases with a double to right center field as Brown, Malgeri and Schirripa all scored, 6-0. Ramapo added three runs in the second inning to take a 8-0 lead before they added four runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-RBI double by
Lisa Orlando.
Harley Masiello and Fischer ripped back to back home runs in the fourth inning, both to left field to extend their lead to 15-0. Neither team would score in the fourth and fifth innings as Shaw recorded the final out on a strikeout for the win. Ramapo belted out 14 hits in the game as Fischer was the only Roadrunner to record a multi-hit game as she was 2-2 with four runs scored and one RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to NJAC foe Rutgers-Newark University at 3:00pm tomorrow afternoon.
