Pomona, NJ: Ramapo (20-6, 6-4 NJAC) blanked Richard Stockton (12-14, 2-8) 8-0 in an NJAC makeup game that was stopped in the sixth inning due to the eight-run rule.
Deanna Giordano (Clifton/Clifton) tossed a shutout and
Janet Brown (Point Pleasant/Pt. Pleasant Boro) hit a home run to lead the Roadrunners. The game was played today after being rained out on Saturday.
Ramapo took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by
Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY/Fontbonne Hall Academy) in the second inning and added two more tallies in the fourth frame when Brown slammed a two-run homer to right center for a 3-0 advantage.
The Roadrunners put the game out of reach with three unearned runs in the fifth.
Caitlin Smith (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) stroked an RBI single and later scored on the back end of a double steal for a 6-0 lead. Ramapo brought the eight-run rule into effect with two more unearned runs in the sixth inning. Schirripa singled and
Kelsey Higgins (Wall/Wall) walked, then both players scored on a Stockton throwing error two batters later to end the game at 8-0.
Schirripa and
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake/Pascack Hills) each knocked two hits and scored once for the Roadrunners. Stockton generated scoring chances but Giordano was able to induce outs at key times. The Ospreys left eight runners on base, including two apiece in the second, third and fifth innings.
Giordano scattered five hits and struck out five in recording her fourth shutout of the season. For Stockton, Ally Roma (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) went 2-3 with a double and Bianca DiDolce (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) extended her hitting streak to four games with a single in the second inning.
Stockton will visit Rutgers-Camden for an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow at 3 p.m. Ramapo will host New Jersey City in an NJAC twin-bill tomorrow at 3 p.m.
