ROADRUNNERS DEFEAT RUTGERS NEWARK, 58-55 IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: A last chance run by Rutgers Newark wasn't enough to overcome Ramapo tonight as the Lady Roadrunners earned a 58-55 victory tonight at the Bradley Center in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. With the victory, the Roadrunners improve to 14-8 overall and 4-6in the NJAC while Rutgers Newark falls to 15-8 overall, 5-7 in the conference.

Senior Danielle Beam led the Roadrunners recording a double-double which included 12 points and ten rebounds, while Alexa Ryan posted a team high 17 points shooting 5-16 from the field, including 5-6 from the charity stripe. The team went 22-61 (36%) from the field in the victory. Samantha Maggio dished out five assists and Lindsey Gripenburg recorded eight boards and ten points on the night. Jared Tactuk finished the night with 18 points and Jaleesa Coleman added a double-double to the game with ten boards and 12 points. The Scarlet Raiders went 20-61 (33%) in the game.

The Roadrunners opened to a 34-19 halftime lead after Ryan sunk 12 points and Faith Flannery, Beam, and Gripenburg each added six as Ramapo shot a combined 14-36 (39%) from the field. Rutgers Newark went 8-29 (27%). The Roadrunners opened to a 7-0 lead to start the game before the Scarlet Raiders responded with a mini 5-0 run to come within two points, 7-5, with 15:10 on the clock. The game would remain close until the 15th minute of play when Beam sparked a 14-0 run to close out the first half of play with a 34-19 lead over the Scarlet Raiders. The run was capped off by an and-one play from Ryan. Coleman led Rutgers Newark in the half with nine points.

The Scarlet Raiders spent the first eight plus minutes of the half chipping away at Ramapo's lead to come within five points, 38-33 with 11:41on the clock. A 7-0 was sparked by Tactuk at 13:23 with a three-point goal before Coleman put Rutgers Newark within five just over two minutes later. The two teams traded runs leaving Ramapo up 13 with just 4:22 to play, but the Scarlet Raiders responded again, this time with an 11-0 run to close the gap to just two points, 53-51, with 33 seconds to play. The run was sparked by ShaQuanna Marshall and capped off with two free throws from Kristen Venning. In the final seconds of the half, Ramapo's Maggio hit two free throws of her own and Tactuk hit a layup for a 55-53 Ramapo lead with 13 seconds to play. Ryan sunk two free throws and Venning drove the length of the court sinking two points of her own. Again Ramapo at the charity stripe, Maggio hit the back end of a two shot foul to go up, 58-55 which held until the buzzer earning the NJAC victory. Beam led the Roadrunners in the half with six points as the team hit 8-25 (32%) from the field. Tactuk netted a team high 16 points for the Scarlet Raiders in the final 20 minutes of play. Her team went 12-32 (38%) from the field.

The Roadrunners will take on William Paterson University on Monday, February 14th at 5:30pm at the Bradley Center in their final regular season home game of the season.
