HAWKS DOWN ROADRUNNERS, 1-0

New Paltz, NY: The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team got a big boost from its bench Wednesday afternoon against Ramapo College on Alumni Field, as sophomore forward Shelby Kondelka (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) buried the game-winner in the 78th minute to propel the Hawks (1-3-0) to a 1-0 non-conference win.

Kondelka headed in a beautiful cross from sophomore defender Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y.), netting her first collegiate goal. Ramapo (1-3-0), however, fought back, creating numerous scoring chances in the waning minutes.

Senior Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) blasted a shot from the left wing in the 87th minute that caromed off the crossbar, and the Roadrunners put two shots on frame within a 10-second span less than a minute later.

The Hawk defense then clamped down in the final two minutes to secure the victory.

On the afternoon, New Paltz held the upper hand in shots, 18-12, and took three corner kicks to Ramapo's two.

Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y.) had a virtuoso performance in net, using an aggressive demeanor to fend off Ramapo's attack. She earned a shutout, making five stops. Sophomore Alyssa Krall (Toms River, NJ) held the game-high in saves, however, with six guarding the Roadrunner goal. Both squads tallied one team save apiece.

The Roadrunners return to action on Friday at the New Jersey City Liberty Cup hosted by New Jersey City University. They take on SUNY College at Old Westbury at 2:30 PM. Live stats and video links can be found at ramapoathletics.com.
