Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's tennis team defeated NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University today, 7-1 at the Athletic Center. The win evens the Roadrunners record to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 2-4 overall 0-3 in the conference.
The Roadrunners tallied five points in singles action and two in doubles play to come away with the 7-2 win.
Jywel Almirante (Newton, NJ) defeated Ashley Lawrence, 7-6, 6-3 at second singles while
Brittany Pitts (Pompton Lakes, NJ) downed Michelle Kvitnitsky, 8-5 at third singles.
Hayley Downing (Cliffside Park, NJ),
Stephanie Abrecht (Manasquan, NJ) and
Katelynn Wintz (Seaville, NJ) each won their matches at fourth through sixth singles respectively.
Laura Strandberg (East Brunswick, NJ) and Pitts fell in a tough, 8-6 match at first doubles to Bushra Memon and Agnes Bangayan. Almirante and
Erin Gerhard (Cape May, NJ) picked up a 8-3 win at second doubles while Downing and Abrecht picked up a 8-0 shutout at third doubles.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Saint Thomas Aquinas College for a 3:00 PM match.
