Ewing, NJ: The College of New Jersey women's tennis team added another championship to its already impressive streak as the Lions defeated Ramapo College 9-0 on Wednesday to reel in their 28th straight New Jersey Athletic Conference title.
TCNJ has won every conference title since the NJAC began sponsoring women's tennis in 1982. The Lions finished conference play with a perfect 5-0 record winning all five of those dual meets by 9-0 scores. Wednesday's win extended TCNJ's winning streak against conference opponents to 136 straight, a streak spanning the history of the conference.
Sophomore Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles over
Laura Strandberg (East Brunswick, NJ) for the Lions and also had an 8-0 victory paired with sophomore Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ). Those two wins gave her 50 career combined victories.
Tierney also picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles against
Nicole Pitts (Pompton Lakes, NJ) followed by victories from sophomore Paige Aiello (Hillsborough, NJ) at third singles (6-1, 6-0) over
Brittany Pitts (Pompton Lakes, NJ), junior Emily Petersack (Mercerville, NJ) in the fourth spot (6-1, 6-1) over
Hayley Downing (Cliffside Park, NJ). Freshman Tara Criscuolo (Westfield, NJ) picked up a win in the fifth position (6-0, 6-0) over
Katelynn Wintz (Seaville, NJ), and sophomore Lauren Balsamo (Wall, NJ) in the final slot (6-0, 6-0) picked up a win over
Mengxi Chen (River Edge, NJ).
Balsamo and Aiello coasted to an 8-0 win at second doubles with Petersack and junior Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ) winning by that same 8-0 score in the third position.
