RAMAPO SPLITS WITH #7 TCNJ IN NJAC SOFTBALL ACTION

Ewing, NJ:  The College of New Jersey softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Ramapo College on Saturday as the Lions remain atop the standings in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

The Lions won the opener 1-0 and then dropped a 5-0 decision in the second.

TCNJ, which is ranked seventh in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association, is now 26-6 on the season and 12-2 in conference play and lead the conference with 24 points.

Ramapo College is 23-13, 10-4 and in third place in the NJAC standings, with Rowan University in second place with an 11-3 conference mark.

Conference play continues for both teams on Tuesday as the Lions head to Rowan for a pair of games and the Roadrunners heads to Kean University for a pair of games.

Game 1

Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) and Ramapo's Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) locked up in a classic pitcher's duel with Minervini coming away with her 12th win of the season thanks to an unearned run in the fourth.

In that fourth inning, as Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) singled and later came around to score on an infield error for the game's lone run.

Minervini collected her sixth shutout of the season as she scattered seven hits and recorded seven strikeouts.

Giordano took the loss despite not allowing an earned run on six hits.

Senior Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) paced the Lions at the plate with a pair of singles inn three trips to the plate, while junior Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) chipped in with a double.

Ramapo's Danielle Rothenbenger (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Game 2
Ramapo College 5, TCNJ 0
The Roadrunners broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth scoring five times with all five runs coming with two outs. Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXII) and Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) each walked with the bases loaded for the first two runs of the inning. Rothenberger then accounted for the next three runs with a triple to right making it 5-0.

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) suffered her first loss of the season for the Lions after reeling off 14 straight wins to start the year.

Senior Dani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) picked up a pair hits for the Lions.

Ramapo pitcher Lyndsay Buehler (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian) finished with a four-hitter with five strikeouts.
