Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team defeated the Scarlet Raptors from Rutgers-Camden University today, 8-0 in six innings and 4-3. The Roadrunners improve to 18-12, 7-3 in the conference while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 16-7, 5-3
In game one, Ramapo kept the Scarlet Raptors off the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Centerfielder senior
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) ran down a double by Rutgers Camden and fired the ball into rookie
Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ) before Kent threw the ball home and junior catcher
Stephanie Malgeri (Montville, NJ) was able to tag out senior Steph Skroski (Stratford, NJ) for the final out of the inning as she tried to score from first base on the play.
Kent then ripped her third home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning, a two-run home run, plating Donnelly who led off with a single for the Roadrunners.
In the bottom of the third inning sophomore
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) ripped a two out double to right field plating sophomore
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) and rookie
Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) who reached on back to back singles earlier in the inning, putting the Roadrunners in the lead 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Ramapo hit back-to-back home runs to take a 7-0 lead. Malgeri took the first pitch she saw and put it over the right field fence, plating Schirripa before rookie
Lisa Orlando (Bloomfield, NJ) blasted her first home run of her collegiate career to center field. The Roadrunner's plated their eighth run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Schirripa ripped a single to right field, scoring Kent for the eighth run.
Junior
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) (7-6) struck out four, scattering four hits in the complete game shutout. Kent was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI while Schirripa was 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
In game two, Donnelly led off the game with a triple to center field before scoring on a wild pitch by the Scarlet Raptors.
In the top of the fifth, Rothenberger ripped a double down the left field line with two outs, plating Donnelly who singled to center field earlier in the inning to go up 2-0. With the bases loaded, Kent was hit by a pitch and pinch runner rookie
Deanna Russomanno (Cranford, NJ) scored before Rothenberger singled to left field plating rookie pinch hitter
Janet Brown (Point Pleasant, NJ) who walked earlier in the inning, 4-0.
The Scarlet Raptors scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sophomore Erika Drayton (Blackwood, NJ) hit a two run home run over the left field fence, plating Vicki D'Anduono (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) before Amanda D'Anduono (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) smacked a home run over the right center field fence to come within one with two outs, 4-3. Ramapo got out of the inning on a infield ground out to preserve the win.
Junior
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) (9-3) struck out seven and walked two in the complete game. Donnelly was 3-4 in the game with two runs scored while Rothenberger was 2-3 with two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Rutgers-Newark University on April 20th at 1:00 PM.
