Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team defeated the Hawks of Hunter College today in a non-conference double header today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners improve to 14-10 overall while the Hawks fall to 10-8 overall.
The Roadrunners jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) walked and later came home on an error by the Hawks.
The Roadrunners tacked on one run in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. They plated five runs in the third inning on four hits and four Hawk errors kept the inning alive allowing Ramapo to take a 7-0 lead. Freshman
Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, NY) blasted a walk off home run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Roadrunners shutout the Hawks, 8-0
The Roadrunners pounded out seven hits in the game. Sophomore
Lauren Shaw (Wayne, NJ) hurled a perfect game in five innings of work with one strike out. Wong was 2-2 with one run scored and a RBI.
In game two the Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when senior Stephanie Alves (Queen, NY) walked to first base, and came home on an error made by the Roadrunners. Ramapo fought back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Senior
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) led off the inning with a bunt single before stealing second base and advancing to third on a error. Wong reached on an error before Donnelly scored on a pass ball as Wong moved up to third base on the same play. Rothenberger plated Wong with a sacrifice fly to center field, 2-1.
The Hawks fought back in the third, when senior Jacqueline Frank (Broad Channel, NY) hit a home run to centerfield to tie the game at two. Ramapo took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Schirripa to take a 3-2 lead. Hunter came back in the fifth bringing in three runs, two earned, 5-3. Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ) hit her second homerun of the season bringing in Donnelly who walked earlier in the inning, 5-5. In the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore
Maggie Scarpelli (Wyckoff, NJ) was knocked in by Donnelly who singled to right field for the game winning RBI, 6-5.
The Roadrunners pounded out 11 hits in the game while starting pitcher
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) held the Hawks to five hits over five innings of work, striking out seven and walking three. Freshman
Brittany Musolino (South Plainfield, NJ) came in relief to pitch in the final two innings as she picked up the win, she struck out five and walked one. Donnelly was 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and Rothenberger was 2-3 with one RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 13th when they travel to New Jersey City University for an NJAC match up at 3:00 PM.
