Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team picked up two wins today at the Rebel Spring Games as they defeated Springfield College, 10-2 and shutout Anderson University, 3-0.
The Roadrunners took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one. Senior
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) was hit by a pitch before stealing second and rookie
Amanda Kent (Sparta, NJ) hit a bunt single to put runners on first and third. Kent stole second and junior
Rachel Wong ripped an RBI double to right field before sophomore
Maggie Scarpelli (Wyckoff, NJ) cracked a double to left center field plating Wong.
Springfield got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning with a double to right field with two outs, plating both runs. Ramapo got those two runs back in the second inning to go up 5-2. Sophomore
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) picked up two RBI with a single to right field, Donnelly and junior
Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) scored on the play. Donnelly reached base on a bunt single while Giangrande reached on an error. The Roadrunners added three runs in the sixth inning as Wong singled to center plating Donnelly who reached on a bunt single. With the bases loaded, rookie
Stephanie Jones (Robbinsville, NJ) reached on an error which allowed Wong to score from third base before pinch hitter sophomore
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) reached on an infield error and Rothenberger scored on the play. In the seventh inning Ramapo added two more runs as Rothenberger continued her hitting streak with an two RBI double to center field, plating Donnelly and Kent who reached on a walk and single to left field earlier in the inning.
Junior
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) raised her record to 2-1, allowing only five hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.
In game two junior
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) pitched a complete game no-hitter, striking out 11 with no walks while facing one batter over the minimum. She raises her record to 2-1 as the Roadrunners shutout Anderson University, 3-0.
Ramapo got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior
Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) walked before Wong pushed a bunt past the third baseman. Rothenberger then ripped a double down the left field line, plating McKeon. With two outs and two strikes Fischer ripped a single past the short stop as Rothenberger and Wong scored to take a 3-0 lead.
The Ramapo defense and Buehler would do the rest in shutting out Anderson as they even their overall record to 4-4.
Rothenberger was 4-7 with two runs scored and five RBI today while Donnelly was 3-6 with four runs scored. Malgeri was 2-4 and Wong was 3-7 with three runs scored, one double and three RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, March 17th when they take on #17 Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:00 PM and St. Norbert College at 5:00 PM.
