HASSAN AND PETERKIN LEAD RAMAPO TO NJAC VICTORY OVER ROWAN

Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunner men's basketball team earned their first conference victory tonight over the Profs of Rowan University, 89-72, to improve to 5-0 overall on the year, 1-0 in the conference. Junior Ahmad Hassan led the Roadrunners with a career high 33 points and LaQuan Peterkin contributed 24 on the night.

Hassan and Peterkin both hit 10-15 from the field in the team's 17-point victory tonight while the team combined hitting 33-63 (52%). Peterkin recorded a double-double with ten boards while Hassan grabbed four steals. Rowan was led by Akeem Johnson with 30 points while Chris Gebhart added 16 on the night. The team combined hitting 29-65 (45%) from the field.

Hassan drained 21 points shooting 7-9 from the field, including 5-6 from behind the three-point arc to lead the Roadrunners to a 20-point, 55-35, halftime lead over the Profs. Ramapo combined hitting 62% (21-34) from the field including 71% (5-7) from behind the arc while Rowan combined shooting 13-29, 45% from the field. Within the first five minutes of the game, Ramapo jumped out to a double digit lead after Peterkin put away ten of the team's 16 points, 16-5. With 10:15 on the clock, Peterkin sparked a 6-0 run for Ramapo for a 32-16 Roadrunner advantage, before Hassan sparked a 7-0 run with his third three-point basket of the half to put Ramapo up, 46-26 with just over five minutes to play. Ramapo's biggest lead came with 1:16 to go when Stephon Treadwell netted a jump shot to go up 21. In the final minute, Laud Anderson sunk a free throw to head into the locker room 20 points shy of Ramapo. Johnson led the Profs in the half with 12 points and Gebhart grabbed a team high five rebounds. Peterkin finished the half with 16 points.

The Roadrunners led by as many as 17 in the opening five and a half minutes of the second half, but with 14:41 to play, Roger Loatman hit a jump shot sparking an 8-0 Prof run to put his team within 11 points, 65-54. The run was capped off at 12:51 with a basket from Gebhart. Ramapo stretched their lead back to 14 with a two-point goal from Hassan, and Johnson responded with a three-pointer to again come within 11, 70-59. Ramapo spent the next five minutes climbing back to a 17-point lead with a basket from Treadwell and the Roadrunners held on until the final minute earning the NJAC conference victory.

Ramapo shot 12-29 (41%) behind 12 points from Hassan while the Profs hit 16-36 (44%). Johnson sunk 18 second half points leading the Profs.

Ramapo returns to action on Friday when they travel to Salisbury University for a neutral site match-up Southern Virginia at 3pm.
