DEMKO LEADS RAMAPO OVER SCARLET RAPTORS, 1-0

Camden, NJ: Senior forward Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) scored the lone goal of the game off a first-half corner kick by senior midfielder Melanie Pupo (Newton, NJ) to lift the Ramapo College women's soccer team over Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.

The victory lifts the Roadrunners to 6-11 overall and 1-7 in the NJAC, vaulting them out of the cellar and over Rutgers-Camden into ninth place in the conference standings with one game remaining.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-13-2 overall and 0-6-2 in the NJAC with its fourth straight loss. Both teams close out their season on Wednesday with NJAC home games. Ramapo hosts Montclair State at 3 p.m., while Rutgers-Camden entertains New Jersey City University at 6 p.m.

Ramapo notched the only goal at 13:13 after Pupo took a corner kick from the left corner and sent the ball across the goal mouth to the far right post. Demko was able to knock in her sixth goal of the season from a crowd near the post. The Roadrunners nearly added another goal with 16:30 remaining in the first half when a shot by freshman back Stephanie Andolino (Randolph, NJ/Morris Catholic) hit off the crossbar.

Ramapo out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 14-9, in the game and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks, but the Roadrunners didn't wrap up their win until the last moment. With the clock ticking down toward the 1:00 mark in the game, the Scarlet Raptors sent two corner kicks across the goal mouth that weren't converted.

Junior goalie Alyssa Krall (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) made two saves for Ramapo as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Freshman keeper Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) made five saves in the Raptor net.
