Anthony LoRusso's (Mahwah, NJ) drive to the basket with sixteen seconds left in the game sealed the come from behind victory for Ramapo, 76-75. The Roadrunners improve to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the NJAC while the Lions fall to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
In the first half the Lions jumped out to a six point lead, 8-2 on a made three pointer by Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ). Back to back layups by senior
Andre Kenny (Jersey City, NJ) and a jumper by sophomore
Davian Plunkett (Paterson, NJ) tied the game at eight with 15:45 left in the half.
Ramapo and TCNJ traded baskets until the Roadrunners started to pull away with 8:06 on the clock. Plunkett and rookie
Stephon Treadwell (Newark, NJ) made back to back jumpers before Punkett scored another basket to take a 25-18 lead. Syvertsen sunk back to back three pointers for TCNJ to come within one point, 25-24 before rookie
Travis Conyers (Jersey City, NJ) scored a lay up at 4:31. Syvertsen once again hit a three pointer to tie the game at 27. He made two foul shots to take at 29-27 lead before Kenny hit a jumper to tie the game at 29. TCNJ's Peter Kelly (Mercerville, NJ) made a jumper at 1:54 to take a two point lead before Treadwell hit back to back baskets to go ahead 33-31 at the half.
In the second half the Lion's jumped out to a 13 point lead with 13:58 remaining on a jumper by Jay Frank (Brick, NJ) before sophomore
Garret Thiel (Middletown, NJ) made a three pointer, cutting the lead to ten, 53-54.
The Roadrunners would go on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to seven before they traded baskets with the Lions. LoRusso hit a jumper in the lane to cut the lead to five with 8:08 remaining before Kenny hit a jumper at 6:47 to cut it to three, 63-60. Steven Siracusa (New Providence, NJ) made back to back layups to take a nine point lead before LoRusso hit both foul shots to cut it to seven. A TCNJ basket at 1:36 put them up by eight, 1:36, before Conyers hit a jumper and Peterkin scored a put back to cut it to four with .55 seconds remaining. A Lion turnover allowed LoRusso to drive to the basket for a lay up as he was fouled on the play as he made hit foul shot to come within one point, 74-75 with .29 seconds on the clock.
The Roadrunners fouled which sent Frank to the line for two shots as he missed both setting up the game winning lay up by LoRusso.
Four Roadrunners scored in double figures tonight. Treadwell tallied 16 points and eight boards while Kenny tallied 15 points and three assists. LoRusso posted 14 points as he was 4-4 from the foul line while Plunkett posted a double-double, 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Lions, 45-31 while Ramapo shot 47% from the field and 73% from the foul line.
For TCNJ, Frank tallied a game high, 25 points, 9-18 from the field and 5-8 from the foul line. Syvertsen was 5-10 from behind the three point line as he tailled 17 points while Siracusa posted 15 points and ten boards. TCNJ shot 45% from the field and 70% from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to NJAC rival William Paterson University on February 3rd at 8:00 PM.
