RAMAPO MEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS ROWAN, 95-87 IN OT

Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team recorded a 95-87 overtime victory over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.

Ramapo trailed by seven points (78-71) with 2:53 left in the second period. The Roadrunners closed out the half with a 9-2 run. The surge was capped off by a three-pointer by guard Anthony LoRusso (so. Mahwah, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) with 12 seconds left to play that sent the game into overtime.

In the extra period, the score was tied at 83 with 3:44 on the clock. Ramapo guard Andre Kenny (sr. Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) hit a jumper (3:15) and center LaQuan Peterkin (so. Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy) sank two free throws (2:43) to give the Roadrunners a four point advantage (87-83). Rowan guard Sean Hughes (jr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) brought the Profs within two (87-85) with two foul shots at 2:29. Ramapo went six for eight from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Ramapo improves to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Rowan has a 10-4 overall record and a 2-2 NJAC mark. Peterkin led the Roadrunners with 25 points and 12 rebounds. LoRusso added 24 points and four assists. Forward Davian Plunkett (so. Paterson, NJ/Paterson Kennedy) posted a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Kenny compiled 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Guard Garret Thiel (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) contributed with 10 points, seven assists and five boards off the bench.

For Rowan, Hughes totaled a career-high 25 points and seven assists. Forward Steve Secula (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) tallied 15 points and seven boards. Guard Allen Pritchett (sr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) chipped in with 16 points, while forward Tyson Hartnett (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had 13 points.

The Roadrunners were ahead 35-34 at halftime. In the second period, the score was tied (37-37) at 19:27. Rowan went on a 13-3 run for a 10 point lead (50-40) at 16:27. Hughes scored seven of the 13 points. Forward Tim Matchett's (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) two free throws at 14:56 increased the advantage to 11 (55-44). Ramapo had six straight points to cut the deficit to five (55-50) at 13:20. Forward Stephon Treadwell (fr. Newark, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) posted four of the six points. The Profs went back up by 11 (64-53) after two foul shot by Pritchett at 8:09. Ramapo crawled back within seven (78-71) with 2:53 left.

Rowan travels to Montclair State University for a conference game on Saturday, January 16 at 1 p.m. Ramapo returns to action the same day at home against NJAC rival Kean University at 7:00 p.m.
