Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's tennis team dropped a tough, 9-0 decision today to the Lions of the College of New Jersey in their first NJAC match-up of the 2009 season. With the loss, Ramapo falls to 4-2 overall, 0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while TCNJ improves to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Senior Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ) led off singles action defeating
Laura Strandberg (East Brunswick, NJ), 6-1, 6-0, before Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ) went 6-2, 6-0 over
Kristine Austria (Jersey City, NJ) at second singles. Rookie
Alexandria Potosnak (Vernon, NJ) fell short, 1-6, 1-6 to Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor, NJ) at third singles and
Jywel Almirante (Newton, NJ) and
Brittany Pitts (Pompton Lakes, NJ) competed at fourth and fifth singles respectively falling short, 3-6, 1-6 and 1-6, 0-6. Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp, NJ) wrapped up singles action for the Lions with a 6-3, 6-0 win over
Alison Tukel (Morris Plains, NJ).
In doubles action, Shtemberg and Trinh paired up defeating the Ramapo pair, 8-2 whileTukel and Almirante fell short 8-3 at second doubles to Bendijo and Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ). Balsamo and Emily Petersack (Mercerville, NJ) earned the final point for TCNJ for the shutout at third doubles defeating the Ramapo duo, 8-2.
The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, September 21st when they travel to Rutgers Newark at 4:00 PM while the Lions take on Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, September 23rd at 3:30 PM.
