Mahwah, NJ: In the first NJAC women's soccer match-up of the season, the Ramapo College Roadrunners posted a 5-0 victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark to improve to 5-2 overall on the year, 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raiders fall to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Rookie
Rebecca Maccia (Point Pleasant, NJ) gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 edge at 9:53 off a through ball from sophomore
Allison Arnold (Monroe Twp., NJ), before junior
Arielle Leva (Ridgewood, NJ) drove a ball up the field to senior forward
Margaret Sciarretta (Kearny, NJ) to put Ramapo up two goals to none which held into the intermission.
Ramapo out shot Rutgers Newark, 11-5 in the first 45 minutes of play while
Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) made one save for the Roadrunners. Kat Renteria (North Bergen, NJ) made three saves for the Scarlet Raiders in the net.
Under one minute into the second half,
Brittney Harraka (Clifton, NJ) ripped a shot past Renteria that rebounded off the post adding an insurance goal with 44:36 left to play. The Roadrunners went up 4-0 with a goal from
Kimberly Bruno (Middletown, NJ), assisted by Sciarretta, and
Jessica Horne (Sicklerville, NJ) took a pass from rookie
Kaitlin Griffith (Cedar Knolls, NJ) giving Ramapo the 5-0 victory in the conference match-up.
The Roadrunners added eight more shots in the half while Rutgers Newark recorded three in the final 45 minutes. The Roadrunners edged the Scarlet Raiders, 8-0 in corner kicks for the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to William Paterson for a 7:00pm start, while Rutgers Newark takes on Montclair State at home at 7:00 pm on the 23rd.
