Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team fell to 23-9 overall today, and 9-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, after the Cougars of Kean University swept Ramapo with a 1-0 game one, and a 5-4 game two victory. Kean improves to 21-13 overall and 10-4 in the NJAC.
Through the first six innings the game remained scoreless until in the top of the 7th, junior Allison Lizzi singled to right field with one out, and later came home on a single to center field with two outs on the board, from Alicia Banz to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge. After a ground out to the third baseman, the Roadrunners came to bat for last ups hoping to get on the scoreboard. With one out, rookie
Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) ripped a single to left field, but remained stranded on first base after took quick outs gave Kean the game one 1-0 win.
Lizzi led the Cougars going 1-3 with one run while Banz gets the RBI hitting 1-3 in the match-up.
Junior pitcher Cassie Shotwell gets the win improving to 9-8 overall. Shotwell struck out five, letting up four hits in the game.
Sophomore
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) records the loss in the complete game. Giordano let up only two hits and struck out 11, falling to 13-2 overall.
In the nightcap, Ramapo put a run on the board early in the 1st inning after
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) led off with a walk and later came home on a single to first base from Marliee Farmer (Toms River, NJ).
The game remained that way until the 5th inning when a home run from Rothenberger, with
Katie Donnelly (North Halendon, NJ) on third base, put Ramapo up, 3-0. The Cougars answered back in the bottom of the same inning with three runs of their won to knot the game at 3-3. A sacrifice fly from Lindsay Kennedy crossed Melissa Dietrich, before Jesse Buchanan came home on a single to center field by Lizzi. Shotwell ripped a double to center, driving in Lizzi posted the tie.
The Roadrunners again gained the advantage in the 6th inning when
Stephanie Malgeri (Montville, NJ) scored on Donnelly single. Malgeri led off the inning with a single to left field. The Roadrunners' lead was short lived when in the bottom of the 6th, Kean crossed two runs to go up, 5-4. Lizzi drove in what turned out to be the game winner and Kennedy added insurance.
Shotwell pitched a 1-2-3 7th to give the Cougars the 5-4 win. Shotwell improves to 10-8 striking out two while letting up ten hits. Giordano pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and gets the loss to fall to 13-3 overall.
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) pitched 4 2/3 innings letting up four hits and three runs.
Lizzi went 2-3 with one run and two RBI while Buchanan went 1-4 scoring two runs. Rothenberger hit 2-4 in the game, scoring one run and driving in two.
Ramapo College 7th - Rothenberger grounded out to 2b. Farmer flied out to 2b.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they travel to Richard Stockton University for a 1:00pm NJAC match-up.
