ROADRUNNERS COME OUT ON TOP IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners of Ramapo College earned a 44-42 overtime victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up at the Bradley Center. Ramapo earns their fourth (4-6) NJAC win of the season, revenging their earlier loss to the Raiders back in December. The Raiders fall to 4-6 in the conference.

The Scarlet Raiders (10-11 overall) jumped out to a 23-18 lead after Jared Tactuk (Wayne, NJ) put away ten points and grabbed a team high three steals in the first 20 minutes of play. Tactuk shot 4-8 from the field while the team combined for nine field goals on their 32 attempts, hitting 28% of their shots. Stephanie Cannizzaro (Pequannock, NJ) pulled down a team leading five rebounds in the half. Rutgers Newark led the entire half except for the opening minute when a basket from Cannizzaro gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage. At 4:34, the game's fourth tie came with a jumper from China, but a 7-2 outscoring of Ramapo in the final minutes, put the Scarlet Raiders up by five at the buzzer.

Ramapo slowly closed in on the Scarlet Raiders in the opening minutes, and with 10:45 left to play, Cannizzaro dished a ball to Beth Weinmann (Pompton Plains, NJ) to tie the game for the fifth time, 29-29. Ramapo's first lead, 33-31, since the opening minute of the game came at 8:43 with two free throws from Brittany Hoffman (Belford, NJ). Ramapo pushed ahead by six points when the front end of a two-shot foul fell for Hoffman, but Rutgers Newark cut it in half with a three-point goal from Tactuk, 39-36. Shatanay McCaskill (Paterson, NJ) hit a jump shot to come within one, 39-38, and Tactuk hit a jumper with 2:05 on the clock to gain the 40-39 advantage. The Scarlet Raiders went up 41-39 with a free throw from Tactuk, and a basket from Hoffman tied the game at 41 with 30 seconds to play. After an offensive foul on Rutgers Newark, the ball was in Ramapo's hands, but a turnover with .05, forced the game into overtime play.

It was a slow overtime period where both teams were held to no field goals. Ramapo hit 3-6 from the charity stripe and Rutgers Newark capitalized on one of their four opportunities to fall short, 3-1 in overtime to Ramapo, 44-42 on the night. China finished the night with a team leading 12 points hitting 4-7 from the field, and 4-7 from the free throw line, while Cannizzarro went 1-6 from the field and 7-11 from the line for nine game points. The Roadrunners hit 13-38 (34%) in the game, while Rutgers Newark made 22% (14-65) of their shots.
