MCBREEN EARNS 200th CAREER COACHING VICTORY

Mahwah, NJ: Head Coach Chuck McBreen earned his 200th career coaching victory at Ramapo College tonight with a 110-71 victory over the Beavers of the City College of New York. With the win, Ramapo improves to 14-11 overall while CCNY falls to 2-22.

In his 11 years at Ramapo College, Coach McBreen has led his team to 200 victories while suffering 101 losses. For eight of his first ten years at Ramapo, the program has been nationally ranked in the top 25, and last season the team made their 8th straight appearance in the NJAC playoffs.

For the ball game:
The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first and CCNY countered to tie the game at 18:39, before Ramapo went up again with a two-point basket from Davian Plunkett (Paterson, NJ). Xavier Gonzalez hit his first of four three-pointers to give his team a one point edge, and Andrew Mungin followed with a jump shot to go up 7-4 with 17:47 on the clock. With a basket from Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ) followed by a basket from Justin Arthur (Paterson, NJ), CCNY's lead was short lived and the Roadrunners would take over for the remainder of the period. Ramapo earned their biggest lead at 1:45, when LaQuan Peterkin (Paterson, NJ) hit a jump shot to put Ramapo up 26, 56-30. Senior Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ) and junior Isaiah Lynch (Linden, NJ) led the Roadrunners in the first half shooting a combined 10-12 from the field, recording ten points each. The team hit 27 field goals combined, on 39 attempts (69%), while CCNY went 13-22 (59%). Gonzalez led the Beavers with 12 points hitting 4-7 from the field, all three-point goals. Ramapo forced 17 CCNY turnovers while only committing five.

Ramapo continued to pull away gaining a 43 point lead at 4:57, when Lynch hit a layup off a dish from Garret Thiel (Middletown, NJ).  They finished the game with a 39 point victory, 110-71.  Wesley led the team in the secind half with ten points on 5-6 shooting, while Peterkin contributed another ten points to the win.  Lynch added eight and pulled down a team high four rebounds.  Michael McPartland led the Beavers with ten points.  Ramapo combined hitting 22-31 (71%) over CCNY's 13-33 (47%).

On the night, Lynch and Peterkin led the team with 18 points each while Findlay and Wesley chipped in 16 apiece.  The team put away 49 baskets and shot a season high 70%, while CCNY went 26-55 (47%) from the field.  Gonzalez led the team with 17 points.

The Roadrunners await news on the outcome of the Rutgers Newark, Jersey City match-up tomorrow night, which determines if they will be competing in the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament as the #3 seed of the North Division.
