RAMAPO PICKS UP WIN OVER YORK

Jamaica, NY:  The York College men's basketball team struggled offensively Tuesday evening and fell to Ramapo College by a score of 62-54 in a non-conference match-up. Ramapo improves to 4-0 on the season while York falls to 1-3 overall.

York converted only 31 percent of its shots, compared to Ramapo who shot 40 percent from the field. Their inability to hit open looks proved to be the difference in the game. Despite the loss, Marcel Esonwune recorded his fourth double-double of the season, netting 14 points and grabbing ten boards, while also blocking four shots. Nicholas Hamilton-Lopez paced York with 13 points.

For Ramapo, LaQuan Peterkin (Paterson, NJ) scored a game-high 16 points, while also grabbing 12 boards. David Plunkett netted seven points and pulled down 11 rebounds to pace the Roadrunners.

The two teams went back and forth in the first half, exchanging leads seven times before going into halftime with the score tied at 27-27.

Ramapo held a narrow lead for most of the second half until the 13:49 mark when they went on a 7-0 run to take a 46-35 lead with 10:42 to play. The run was capped by an Anthony Hines (Pennsauken, NJ) three-pointer.

York closed back to within two points after a lay-up by Esonwune with 4:48 remaining. However, the Roadrunners held off the run, scoring on their next two possessions to go back up by six points. Ramapo controlled the game the rest of the way.

Ramapo will host William Paterson on December 2nd at 7:30 PM.
