Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's tennis team defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson, 9-0 today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Athletic Center.  The Roadrunners improve to 8-2 overall, and earn their second conference win of the season standing at 2-0.  William Paterson falls to 1-2 and 0-1 in the conference.

Ramapo's Kristine Austria (Jersey City, NJ) and William Paterson's Rachel Menzzopane (Neptune, NJ) each won a set at first singles before Austria took the third set earning the victory.  Rookie Taryn Potenza (Garfield, NJ) and junior Alison Tukel (Morris Plains, NJ) went 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively at second and third singles taking a 3-0 edge over the Pioneers.  Rookie Laura Strangberg (East Brunswick, NJ) shut out her Pioneer opponent at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Liza Wyble (Millville, NJ) and Nicole Pitts (Pompton Lakes, NJ) wrapped up singles action with singles wins of their own.

In doubes action, Wyble and Tukel defeated Menzzopane and Lisa Varacallo (Monroe Twp., NJ), 8-3, and Strandberg and Potenza combined forces at second singles earning an 8-1 victory.  The shut out for the Roadrunners came after Finaldi and rookie Jywel Almirante (Newton, NJ) defeated the Pioneer pair, 8-0, at the third and final doubles match-up.

Ramapo takes on Kean University in a NJAC match-up on Wednesday, September 24th at 4:00 PM in Union, NJ. The Pioneers  take on Baruch College on Saturday at 1:00 PM at home in Wayne, NJ.
