Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 overtime victory over Rutgers-Newark on Alumni Field when senior
Katie Miller (Hazlet, NJ) headed the ball past the Scarlet Raider goalkeeper in overtime. With the win the Roadrunners improve to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raiders fall to 4-3 overall, 0-1 in the conference,
Sophomore midfielder
Melanie Pupo's (Newton, NJ) corner kick from the left side bounced off Miller's head and past freshman goalkeeper Kat Renteria (North Bergen, NJ) ending the contest with 3:35 left in the first overtime period.
The hard-fought contest in which Rutgers-Newark held a 12-10 edge in shots and a seven to four advantage in corner kicks. The Raiders put four shots on goal to the Roadrunners' two.
Ramapo sophomore midfielder
Kristina Marinello (Washington Twp., NJ) knotted the score in the 29th minute, crossing a shot in front of Renteria from the right side of the box off a feed from sophomore forward
Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ).
Freshman forward Julia Caseres (Union, NJ) scored in the 11th minute, putting back her own shot which had been blocked by Ramapo defenders on the left side of the box.
Junior goalkeeper
Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) got the win, stopping two shots in the opening period and one in the second half. Renteria was the hard-luck loser who posted one second-half save.
The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Scarlet Raiders while Ramapo climbed above .500.
The Roadrunners take on William Paterson on Wednesday, September 24th at 4:30 PM at home.
