Mahwah, NJ: The Lady Roadrunners posted a non-conference, 5-4 victory today over the Hawks of Hunter College to improve to 5-2 overall. Hunter falls to 1-2.
Rookies
Taryn Potenza (Garfield, NJ) and
Laura Strandberg (East Brunswick, NJ) paired up at second doubles posting an 8-4 win while senior
Jen Finaldi (West Milford, NJ) and rookie
Jywel Almirante (Newton, NJ) earned a win of their own at third singles, 8-2, to take a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Hunter's first, second, and third singles players posted victories going up 4-2 before Strandberg, Almirante, and
Liza Wyble (Millville, NJ) took over the final singles match-ups to earn the 5-4 match win. Strandberg downed Stefanie Smith (Little Neck, NY), 6-2, 6-2 and Almirante went 6-0, 6-1, and Wyble wrapped up singles action with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alyssa Wheeler (New York, NY).
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 20th when they take on Rutgers Newark at noon at the Athletic Center in Mahwah.
