Ithaca, NY: The Ramapo College softball team, seeded #2 in the Northeast Regional NCAA Tournament, defeated the #7 seeded Lions of Penn State-Behrend, 4-1 today at Kostrinsky Field in Ithaca, New York. The Roadrunners improve to 34-10 overall and advance to play the #6 seeded Bison of Bethany College tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
Senior third baseman
Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) ripped a solo homerun on her first pitch in the bottom of the 1st inning, to take a 1-0 lead over Penn-State Behrend with two outs.
Ramapo tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd when junior
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) ripped a two run single down the left side to put Ramapo up three.
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) and
Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) came home on the play after laying down a bunt and singling respectively to get on base.
The Roadrunners went up 4-0 in the 6th inning as Farmer hit another single, again to left field, to lead off, and later crossed home plate when
Amanda Sansevere (West Keansburg, NJ) grounded out to the second baseman with no outs.
Penn-State Behrend scored their only run in the 7th on no hits and two Ramapo errors.
Senior right hander
Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight batters while facing 25. She improves to 14-5 overall on the year.
Cascino went 2-3 with one run and one RBI while Farmer hit 2-3 as well. She drove in two runs and scored one of her own. Rookie
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) hit 2-3 in the win.
