#9 RAMAPO SPLITS WITH NJAC RIVAL WILLIAM PATERSON

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team split a NJAC doubleheader against William Paterson University today at the Athletic Center. Ramapo won game one, 5-0 before falling in game two 4-5 in eight innings. The Roadrunners now stand at 19-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference while the Pioneers are 13-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Sophomore Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) reached base on a single and stole second and moved to third on a foul out to deep right field before junior Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) dove a RBI single to left field for Ramapo's first run of the game.

In the second inning Donnelly doubled to center field and crossed the plate on rookie Rachel Wong's (Livingston, NJ) single to left field before senior Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) ripped a two-run home run to right field for a 5-0 lead. The Roadrunners tacked on one more run as Donnelly singled and stole second before Farmer picked up her second RBI of the day with a single to left field. Ramapo would hold the Pioneers for the remainder of the game and senior Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) recorded her fifth win of the season firing a complete game one-hit shutout.

In game two Cascino got the Roadrunners on the board in the top of the first with her second two-run home run of the day scoring Wong who ripped a single to center field earlier in the inning. The Pioneers scored two of their own in the first inning when Ana Abourashed (Middlesex, NJ) singled home Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, NJ) who singled to get on earlier in the inning. Pinch runner Kelly Apgar (Andover, NJ) crossed the plate on Lindsey Nadolny's (Belford, NJ) hard single to center field.

Ramapo took the lead in the second as Donnelly walked and scored on Wong's double to left field for a 3-2 lead before the Pioneers took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run from Ashlie Gaynor (Berlin, NJ).

Ramapo would tie the game back up in the seventh when bases were loaded for rookie Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) as her hard shot to short stop was misplayed allowing Wong to score from third base and tie the score 4-4. Ramapo held the Pioneers in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

The Roadrunners could not score in the top of the eighth allowing a chance for William Paterson to come back in the bottom half of the inning. The Pioneers' would push a run across when the bases were loaded with one out for pinch hitter Kelly Lauter (Saccasunna, NJ) as she drew a walk from Ramapo reliever rookie Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) to plate pinch runner Jillian Mulderig (Sewell, NJ) for a 5-4 victory.

Rookie Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) recorded a no-decision striking out two in four innings of work allowing six hits and four runs. Buehler falls to 5-1 on the season, striking out five.

Cascino was a combined 3-7 with two runs scored and four RBI while Donnelly was 3-7 with four runs scored and two stolen bases on the day. 

Ramapo will return to action tomorrow when they travel to #16 Montclair State University for a NJAC double header starting at 3:00 PM
