#11 RAMAPO SWEEPS RUTGERS-NEWARK IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  Senior Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) ripped a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Ramapo a 1-0 lead in game one and the Ramapo offense scored eight runs in the game two to propel the Roadrunners over the Scarlet Raiders, 9-1 and 8-0. Ramapo improves to 25-7 overall and 9-3 in the conference while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 4-28 overall and 0-12 in the conference.

In game one sophomore Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) drove in sophomore Jamie Chalkley (West Milford, NJ) and rookie Sonni Caruso (River Vale, NJ) when she ripped a single to right field to extend the lead 3-0. Chalkley reached on a fielder's choice and Caruso hit a bunt single in front of the plate.

The Scarlet Raiders got one back in the top of the fourth inning when Shauna Gallagher (Rockaway, NJ) hit a single to left field and advanced to second on a groundout before Elena Morge (Cranford, NJ) ripped a single to center field to cut Ramapo's lead, 3-1.

Cascino reached on an infield hit before moving to second when rookie Stephanie Malgeri's (Montville, NJ) hit to short stop was misplayed. Junior Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) knocked in Cascino with a single down the left field line before junior Amanda Sansevere (West Keansburg, NJ) singled home Malgeri with a single to center field. Senior Tara Eagel (Ocean Twp., NJ) knocked in Farmer with a single to left field. Pinch hitter senior Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) walked to load the bases and rookie Ashley O'Rourke (Pequannock, NJ) ripped a single down the left field line to bring home Caruso and Eagel for a 9-1 victory.

Senior Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) struck out four in the victory improving to 8-3 on the year while allowing only three hits. Cascino went 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI while Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) went 2-3 and Caruso went 2-2 with two runs scored.

Ramapo got on the board first in game two when Farmer doubled to left field and came home on Wong's single to center field for a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the fourth inning Wong doubled and rookie Cherese Matthews (Pequannock, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice and both came home on Malgeri's triple to right field.

Ramapo scored five runs on six hits in the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 8-0. Ramapo was able to hold the Scarlet Raiders in the bottom half of the fifth to pick up their 25th win of the season. Rookie Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) picked up her sixth win of the season, striking out three and only giving up three hits. Matthews went 1-2 with one run scored and one RBI while Cascino went 1-3 with a run scored.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday April, 17th when they host Albright College at 3:30 PM.
