COE HANDS RAMAPO FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to Coe College in game one and defeated Emerson College, 5-2 in game two of day two of the Rebel Games. The Roadrunners now stand at 3-1 overall.

In game one, the Kohawks scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning when a ball was misplayed in right field that allowed Ashley Leonard to advance to third base; she scored on a hard hit ball that went off of the pitcher's leg and rolled towards second base.

Senior Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) suffered the loss, giving up only three hits while striking out six.

In game two, Emerson College got on the board in the third inning when Katie Hartman was hit by a pitch to lead off, and advanced to second on a wild pitch before being moved to third on a walk. She later scored on Brittany Martin's single to center field.

Ramapo answered back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Junior Amanda Sansevere (Hazlet, NJ) singled home rookie pinch runner Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) from third base to tie the game at 1-1. Pinch hitter Ashley O'Rourke (Pequannock, NJ) walked with the bases loaded before sophomore Katie Donnelly (North Haldedon, NJ) grounded out to second base to plate Sansevere. Rookie Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) smacked a single up the middle to plate the final two runs of the inning.

Emerson would tack on one run in the fifth inning when Catie McDonough walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a ground out and a single respectively, before coming home on a sacrifice fly to left field by Sierra Wood. In the seventh inning, McDonough doubled to left centerfield and advanced to third on a groundout, before rookie left-handed pitcher Kristina Jimenez (West Milford, NJ) recorded three straight groundouts for a 5-2 victory.

Rookie Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) started the game for Ramapo, striking out eight and surrendering only one run. Jimenez pitched the final three innings in relief, striking out two.

Wong was 2-3 at the plate with two RBI while rookie Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) was 2-3 with one run scored.
