ROADRUNNERS EARN TEN POINT WIN OVER FARMINGDALE

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team earned an 80-70 non-conference win today over the Rams of Farmingdale State. Led by senior Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ), the Roadrunners improved to 3-0 on the year. In their opening game of the 2008-2009 season, the Rams fell by ten points starting the year off at 0-1.

Wesley finished the game with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ) shot 6-8 recording 15 points in the game. Ahmad Hassan (Edgewater, NJ) and Andre Kenny (Jersey City, NJ) netted 11 points each. The Roadrunners combined hitting 40% of their shots, 27-67, while the Rams hit 30-67 (44%) behind 24 points from Mike Campbell (Bronx, NY). Damien Santana (Brooklyn, NY) finished the night with 20 points hitting 9-19 from the floor. Santana dished out three assists while grabbing four steals.

The Roadrunners ended the first half on an 8-0 run to grab a ten point, 40-30 halftime lead behind ten points from Wesley. With 2:11 to go in the half, Findlay hit a jump shot to spark the run which put Ramapo ahead by their biggest lead of the half. Findlay contributed eight points in the first 20 minutes of play. Although the half seemed close, and each team pushed ahead by only four points over the first 18 minutes, the pace of the game was controlled by the Rams. Campbell put away six baskets for the Rams sinking 14 total points. Ramapo shot 16-41 (39%) behind the Rams, 13-31 (42%).

At the start of the second half the Rams pulled within five at 18:07 after Santana sunk a jumper. They moved just three points behind just under two minutes later when Santana hit a shot from behind the three-point arc, 41-44. The teams traded baskets over the next minute until Wesley hit a three-pointer of his own, to go up by eight, 51-43. Hassan hit a three-point goal and sunk three shots from the charity stripe to give Ramapo a 12-point advantage with 11:55 to play. Justin Arthur (Paterson, NJ) followed with another three-point basket to put Ramapo ahead 60-45. Ramapo held a double-digit lead until the 2:37 minute mark when Davon Jackson (New York, NY) sunk a three-pointer to come within eight, 66-74. The Roadrunners put together a 6-0 run to go up 14 with 35 seconds to play, and held on to the buzzer to grab the ten point win. Hassan led the way with nine second half points and Wesley and Findlay added seven each. The Roadrunners went 11-26 (42%) while the Rams netted 40 second half points sinking 17 baskets on 36 attempts (47%). Santana posted 16 points leading the Rams.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to the Unversity of Scranton for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
