Nicolas Leads Raiders Over Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ – Senior guard Nerlande Nicolas (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia HS) had game highs of 20 points and eight rebounds to lead Rutgers-Newark to a 63-47 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Ramapo in The Golden Dome.
Nicolas had a dozen points as the Scarlet Raiders (13-3, NJAC 3-2) withstood a Ramapo rally to forge a 34-30 halftime edge. In the second half, limited the Roadrunners (3-12, NJAC 0-4) to 18.5% shooting from the floor to lead by as many as 24 points.
Junior forward
Theresa Paulmenn (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) netted all 10 of her points, all six of her rebounds and both assists for the Ramapo in the opening half.
After senior forward Toni Roselli (Garfield, NJ/St. Mary's) dropped in a pair of free throws to give the Raiders an 11-point lead with just over four minutes left in the opening period, junior guard
Lauren Moschel (Fair Lawn, NJ/St. Mary's) had five of her nine points during a9-0 Ramapo run which trimmed the Rutgers-Newark lead to 30-28 with 1:33 left. Nicolas sandwiched jumpers around a basket by Paulmenn in the final 50 seconds of the period to keep the Raiders ahead.
In the second half, the Raiders pulled ahead methodically to lead 59-35 on a 3-point jumper by senior guard Sabrina Sanchez (Keasbey, NJ/Woodbridge) with 6:25 left. Sanchez finished with seven points and four rebounds for the balanced Raiders.
