GIORDANO NETS GAME WINNER IN 2-0 VICTORY OVER RUTGERS NEWARK
Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team improved to 2-1 today in the New Jersey Athletic Conference when they defeated the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark, 2-0 at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. Ramapo improves to 6-4 overall, 2-1 in the conference while Rutgers-Newark falls to 4-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the conference.
In the first half of play, senior Chrissy Giordano (Oakland, NJ) ripped a shot past senior goalkeeper Kate Hastings (Haddon Heights, NJ) just over three minutes in off a pass from Arielle Leva (Ridgewood, NJ), giving Ramapo a 1-0 edge. Rookie Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) connected on a pass from senior midfielder Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ) at 12:44, scoring her 7th goal of the season, pushing the Roadrunners ahead by two.
Rutgers Newark shut down the Roadrunners in the final 45 minutes of play while the Roadrunners stood strong holding Rutgers Newark to only one shot.
Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) blocked five total Scarlet Raider shots and Hastings stopped eight letting up both goals in the loss.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, September 26th, traveling to William Paterson at 4:00 PM while the Scarlet Raiders host Montclair State at 7:00 PM.
