Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's tennis team defeated Kean University, 8-1 today in their 2007 NJAC season opener at the Athletic Center in Mahwah.  With the win the Roadrunners improve to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Cougars fall to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Ramapo swept doubles action after Liza Wyble (Millville, NJ) and Alison Tukel (Morris Plains, NJ) paired up in the first hole defeating Danielle Fardin (Edison, NJ) and LaShana Armour (Union, NJ), 8-1.  Lindsay Gerhard (Cape May, NJ) and Jenn Finaldi (West Milford, NJ) earned a doubles victory 8-3 before Becky Drexl (Franklin, NJ) and Ashley Wnek (Colonia, NJ) shut out Kathy Arauz (Newark, NJ) and Maria Miranda (Newark, NJ) of Kean, 8-0 to go up, 3-0 over the Cougars.

The Cougars posted their only point of the match at third singles when Armour defeated Kristine Austria (Jersey City, NJ), 6-0, 6-1.  Tukel posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first singles and Gerhard went 6-1, 6-0 in the second spot.  Wyble and Finaldi earned points for Ramapo at fourth and fifth singles posting 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 wins respectively and rookie Nicole Lapsley (Forked River, NJ) wrapped up the day with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jessica Oquendo (North Bergen, NJ).

The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, September 21 when they travel to William Paterson University for a 4:00 PM start while the Cougars travel to FDU Florham on Saturday, September 22 for a 4:00 PM start.
