Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo's College women's tennis team defeated the Bearcats of Baruch College, 7-2 behind Alison Tukel (Morris Plains, NJ) today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. Ramapo improves to 2-0 overall while the Bearcats open the year with their first loss of the 2007 season, 0-1.
Tukel opened the match-up with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mariya Krivorotova (Russia) at first singles before pairing up with Liza Wyble (Millville, NJ) at first doubles dropping the Baruch pair, 8-4. Wyble earned her own singles victory in the fourth spot posting a 6-3, 6-4 win and Jenn Finaldi (West Milford, NJ), at fifth singles, earned a win of her own, 6-2, 6-3. Becky Drexl (Franklin, NJ) gave Ramapo their fourth singles point defeating Alona Vorobyov (Brooklyn, NY), 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, Lindsay Gerhard (Cape May, NJ) and Kristine Austria (Jersey City, NJ) paired up at second doubles going 8-6 and Drexl and Ashley Wnek (Colonia, NJ) rounding out the action earning an 8-0 shut out doubles win.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 15th when they travel to Dowling for a 1:00 PM start.
