Montclair, NJ: The #3 Rutgers-Camden softball team defeated #2 Ramapo College of NJ today in a NJAC Championship Tournament game, 2-1. The Scarlet Raptors now stand at 29-13 overall while Ramapo falls to 29-7.
Ramapo jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning when sophomore
Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ) hit a double to the right centerfield gap before being replaced by pinch runner junior
Kendall Patton (Hammonton, NJ). Patton advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored as Rutgers-Camden turned a double play on senior
Michele Rossi's (Emerson, NJ) chopper to second base.
The Scarlet Raptors took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning when Marissa Van Cleef (Hillsborough, NJ) had an infield single and advanced to third as Autumn Millett (Richwood, NJ) ripped double to leftfield. Mo Baney (Deptford, NJ) walked before Ramapo turned 1-2-3 double play to pick up two outs. Megan Farrell (Medford, NJ) would hit a two out full-count single to left centerfield to plate the winning runs for Rutgers-Camden.
Ramapo would threaten in the top of the 7th inning when senior
Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) ripped lead off with a double and advanced to third on a groundout before Rutgers-Camden got the final out of the inning on a strikeout to pick up the win.
Junior
Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) took the loss which snapped her win streak at nine games. She struck out two while only giving up 5 hits.
Senior
Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) and Schriber each went 1-2 at the plate with a double while Rossi went 2-3 with a double and one RBI.
Farrell picked up the win and now stands at 11-5 on the year. She allowed six hits while striking out three and walking two.
#2 seeded Ramapo will now have to fight back from the loser's bracket as they take on #1 Montclair State tomorrow at 1:30 PM while #3 seeded Rutgers-Camden advances to play the winner of the Ramapo/MSU match-up at 4:00 PM.
