Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a double header against Rowan University, 4-2 and 11-5. With the sweep the Roadrunners improve to 19-5 overall and 8-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Profs fall to 17-11 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
Game 1: The Roadrunners got all their runs in the third inning as sophomore
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) ripped a three run homerun over the left field fence for a 3-0 Ramapo lead. Senior
Leah Mondadori (Rutherford, NJ) worked the third walk of the inning and later scored on senior
Michele Rossi's triple to right centerfield.
The Profs came back with two runs of their own in the fifth inning as Sarah Carangelo (Sewell, NJ) ripped a lead off homerun to leftfield Kristen Brenner (Vineland, NJ) beat out an infield single before scoring on Lauren Navarro's single to leftfield. Jen Lake (Carneys Point, NJ) ripped a solo homerun over the right field wall in the 7th inning to bring the Profs within one run.
The Ramapo defense held on for the 4-3 win. Junior
Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) picked up her ninth win of the season striking out two.
Farmer went 1-2 with three RBI and Rossi went 1-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Game 2: The Roadrunners got all the runs they would need in the first inning scoring seven runs on seven hits with the aide of one Rowan error. Mondadori ripped her first career homerun to right field in the second inning stretching the lead to 8-0. Kim Ryan (Monmouth Jct., NJ) ripped a solo homerun to right field to put Rowan on the board. The Profs would get on the board in the bottom half of the third inning as Jamie Assini (East Brunswick, NJ) walked and Navarro singled before Lake doubled to pick up two runs.
Schriber doubled home Choma in the top of the fourth inning to take a 9-3 lead. Rowan got two back in the bottom half of the inning as Kristin Wallace (Glassboro, NJ) doubled home Stacy Haas (Florence, NJ) and Assini who reached on a single and walk respectively. Ramapo would tack on two more runs in the 5th inning as sophomore
Amanda Sansevere (Hazlet, NJ) doubled home Rossi who doubled to lead off the inning and Cascino singled home Sansevere.
Senior
Marissa Marino (Wayne, NJ) picked up her ninth win of the season striking out three.
Rossi went 2-4 with two runs scored while Sansevere went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and three RBI. Mondadori went 1-4 with two runs scored and 3 RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow on the road as they travel to The College of Staten Island to take on Hunter College with a 4:00 PM start.
