Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team played host to the NYU Bobcats today for the opening round of the 2007 ECAC Division III Metro Women's Soccer Championship. The Lady Roadrunners, seeded #5, posted a 2-1 victory to improve to 11-8-1 overall on the year. The Bobcats wrap up the 2007 season 10-7-2 overall.

Ramapo got on the scoreboard at 34:03 when senior Chrissy Giordano (Oakland, NJ) put a ball across the net where rookie Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) touched it past senior net minder Katie Barnes (Boston, MA) for her 12th goal of the year. The score remained until the intermission with Ramapo's Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) blocking three shots in the half. Barnes stopped four shots for the Bobcats. Ramapo out shot the Bobcats 8-6 in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Roadrunners jumped ahead 2-0 just over five minutes into the game when Giordano hit the back of the net off a cross from fellow senior midfielder Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ). In the 76th minute, NYU closed the gap after Laura Palumbo (Brooklyn, NY) dribbled up the middle and ripped a shot past DaRold posting her fifth goal of the year. The Bobcats had one last opportunity with just one second on the clock but were unable to capitalize when DaRold came up with the save.

The Roadrunners finished the day with 12 shots, nine on net, while NYU ripped 14 total shots, seven placed on net. DaRold recorded six saves in the team's 11th victory while NYU's Barnes tallied six in the loss.

The Roadrunners advance to Saturday's semi-finals match-up facing off with the winner of the #1 seeded Stevens and the #8 seeded Bard playing tonight starting at 6:00 PM.
