Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's tennis team fell short, 2-7 today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College. Ramapo falls to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC, while Stockton improves to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Becky Drexl (Franklin, NJ) and Ashley Wnek (Colonia, NJ) paired up at third doubles earning one of Ramapo's two points slipping by Shelly Sai (Colonia, NJ) and Ana Estevez (Pennsauken, NJ), 8-6. Drexl came out strong in singles action earning the second point for the Roadrunners, 6-3, 6-2 in the sixth spot.
Stockton's Christa Phillips (Tinton Falls, NJ) and Christy Alexander (Centerville, IN) posted an 8-2 victory at first doubles and Kelli Williams (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Jess Victor (Wyckoff, NJ) followed with an 8-4 victory of their own at second doubles.
In singles match-ups, Phillips posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles and Alexander followed with a victory in the second spot defeating Ramapo's Lindsay Gerhard. Williams, Victor, and Sai rounded out the Osprey's points with 6-3, 6-0: 6-2, 6-1: and 6-4, 7-5 victories in the third, fourth, and fifth singles match-ups respectively.
The Roadrunners will travel to the NJAIAW Tournament this weekend at Drew University.
