ROADRUNNERS SWEEP SCARLET RAIDERS IN MAHWAH, 6-0 AND 8-0

Moore ties single season home run mark

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC double header against Rutgers Newark University, 6-0 and 8-0 in five innings. With the sweep the Roadrunners stand at 24-9 and 8-6 in the conference while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 18-20 overall and 3-13 in the conference.

Game 1: Ramapo got on the board early as Erica Moore (Hazlet, NJ) hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall that scored Ginny O'Brien (Emerson, NJ) who doubled earlier in the first inning. The Roadrunners would score four more runs in the 5th inning as Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) cracked a homerun to centerfield. Moore then smashed her second two-run homerun to left field of the day to score O'Brien who reached on an error. Moore now has eight home runs on the season, tying the single season homerun record at Ramapo. Andrea Pastiglione (Southern, CA) laced a double to the right center field gap and pinch runner Gemma Chalkley (West Milford, NJ) later scored as Becky Pollak (Branchville, NJ) singled to left field.

Ramapo starter Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) threw a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits. She struck out seven and walked none. Moore was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI's, Pollak was 2-3 with 1 RBI, Rossi was 1-2 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and O'Brien was 1-2 with 2 runs scored.

Lauren Herbig (Ringwood, NJ) had the only two hits for Rutgers Newark, going 2-3 on the day.

Game 2: Pastiglione got the Roadrunners on the board in the first inning as she ripped a home run over the left field wall to score Moore who walked to get on base. Ramapo scored four more runs in the 3rd inning. Pastiglione lead off the inning with a double to right field and Pollak was hit by a pitch. Lisa Rizzo (Dumont, NJ) singled to left field to load the bases. Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) doubled home Pastiglione and pinch runner Jen Hoch (Wayne, NJ) while Rizzo advanced to third. Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rizzo and Cascino scored as the right fielder committed an error on the play. In the 5th for the Roadrunners, Mickey O'Connor (Madison, NJ) and Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) hit back to back doubles to score one run. Meredith Polansky (Congers, NY) then ripped a single to center field to score the 8th run of the game. Ramapo held Rutgers Newark in the bottom half of the 5th inning for the win.

Ramapo starter Marissa Marino (Wayne, NJ) pitched a complete game shutout, her second on the season. She struck out one and walked none, only giving up three hits. She improves to 8-4 on the season. Pastiglione went 2-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's and Cascino went 1-2 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI's.

Kate Schrumpf (Upper Montclair, NJ) went 2-2 and Christine Sciarra (Lodi, NJ) went 1-2 for Rutgers Newark.

Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 27, when they travel to NJAC rival The College of NJ for a double header starting at 3:00 PM.
