RAMAPO SWEEPS HUNTER COLLEGE, 9-1, 5-4

Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunner softball team walked away with a doubleheader sweep in Mahwah today over the Hawks of Hunter College, 9-1 and 5-4. Ramapo improves to 22-9 overall while the Hawks fall to 10-13.

Game 1: Ramapo wrapped up a quick 9-1 victory in 4 _ innings behind Andrea Pastiglione (Southern California, CA) who went 2-2 with two runs and two RBI. Junior Becky Pollak (Branchville, NJ) posted one hit on three at bats with two RBI while senior catcher Lisa Rizzo (Dumont, NJ) went 1-2 with one and one of her own.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard early in the 1st when Rizzo ripped a double to left field with two outs driving home Pastiglione who walked earlier to get on base. Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) followed with a double of her own driving in Rizzo and junior Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) crossed Cascio with a single to left to take a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Hunter posted their lone run of the game in the top of the 2nd inning when Jennifer Ithier (New York, NY) singled to center field and stole second before Stephanie Donald (Woodstock, GA) drove her home with a single to left.

Ramapo tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd with Leah Mondadori (Emerson, NJ) reaching home on a Pastiglione single to left and Pastiglione touching home on a Pollak home run over the left field wall.

Up, 6-1, Ramapo's Amanda Jones (Rutherford, NJ) ripped a single driving in junior Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) with two outs in the 3rd. Jones added a run of her own on a RBI single by Ginny O'Brien (Emerson, NJ) and O'Brien posted the final run of the game off Pastiglione's second rip of the game.

Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) gets the win improving to 3-0 on the year pitching the complete game with four strike outs and two walks. Donald records the loss in three innings striking out two and walking one, letting up nine runs on ten hits.

Game 2: Hunter jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play when the team scored two runs in the first inning on three hits off of Ramapo starter, Pollak. Catherine Alves (Queens, NY) singled to right field and was sacrificed to second before scoring on a ground out to the second base by Tiffany Rock (Bronx, NY). Kari Porto (Staten, NY) singled to get on base before Jennifer Damroth (West Babylon, NY) singled to center to score Porto. In the second inning the Hawks scored two more runs to go ahead 4-0.

The Roadrunners tied in the 3rd inning scoring four runs on four hits. Rossi was hit by a pitch and stole second before Pastiglione ripped a single past the third base to bring home Rossi. Mondadori scored off a hit by Pollak and Pastiglione touched the plate off a sacrifice fly to right field by Rizzo. Cascino then doubled home Pollak for the tying run.

Ramapo scored the go ahead run in the 5th when Pollak ripped a double to center field scoring Mondadori who ingled earlier in the inning to get on base. The Roadrunners held the Hawks for the final innings taking game two, 5-4.

Pollak went 2-3 with one run and two RBI while Mondadori hit 2-3 with two runs of her won. Cascino posted one hit on three at bats with one RBI and Pastiglione went 2-3 with one run and one RBI.

Ramapo's Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) earned the win in 5 2/3 innings letting up two hits and no runs, striking out three. Norton improves to 6-3 on the year while Allyshia West (Ontario, Canada) falls to 5-6 with the loss. West struck out nine and walked none in the complete game.

Ramapo travels to TCNJ tomorrow for a double header NJAC match-up at 1:00 PM.
