RAMAPO SWEEPS ALBRIGHT 4-1 AND 4-2 BEHIND MOORE AND CASCINO

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team wins a non-conference double header today, 4-1 and 4-2 over Albright College. With the sweep The Roadrunners improve to 19-6 overall while The Lions stand at 8-16 overall.

In game one The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th as Ashley Young (North Catasauqua, PA) singled to centerfield and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Meredith Heppert (Northhampton, PA). Young later scored when Alex Keyes (Nazareth,PA) ripped a single to centerfield.

The Roadrunners answered back with one run of their own in the bottom of the 4th inning. Andrea Pastiglione (Southern, CA) ripped a double to centerfield and later scored as Lisa Rizzo (Dumont, NJ) doubled her home bringing the score to 1-1.

Ramapo took the lead for good in the 5th inning as Michele Rossi (Emerson, NJ) doubled to right center and later scored when Leah Mondadori (Rutherford, NJ) ripped a double to left field. Erica Moore (Hazlet, NJ) then ripped a home run over the left field wall to bring the score to 4-1.

Marissa Marino (Wayne, NJ) pitched a complete game, bringing her record to 6-3 on the season. She struck out three and walked one, giving up 7 hits and only 1 run.

For the Roadrunners Moore went 1-2 with 2 RBI's and one run scored, Rizzo was 2-3 with 1 RBI and Mondadori was 1-2 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.

Young took the loss for Albright giving up 7hits and 4 runs; she struck out 2 and walked 2. She also went 2-3 with a run scored while Alex Keyes went 2-3 with a RBI.

Game 2: The Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Moore cracked her second home run of the day to left field in the first inning. Both The Roadrunners and The Lions were held scoreless through the next three innings before Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning. Rizzo and Lauren Cacsino (New Windsor, NY) both singled to get on base and later scored when Rossi doubled to left field.

The Lions answered back with a run in the bottom half of the 5th inning as Hilary Gary (Wyalusing, PA) lead off with a double to left field and later scored on a Ramapo error. There second run came when Meredith Mayes (Newton, NJ) drew a bases loaded walk from relief pitcher Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ), bringing the lions within one run. Norton got Erica Romond (Barrington, NJ) to ground out to second base to end the Lions threat.

In the bottom of the 6th inning Cacsino hit a home run to center field to put the Roadrunners up 4-2. They held the Lions in the 7th to pick up their 19th win of the season.

Becky Pollak (Branchville, NJ) pitched 4.1 innings, she gave up 2 hits and 2 walks bringing her record to 6-2 on the season. Norton pitched the final 2.2 innings without giving up a hit or a run scored as she struck out 3 batters while walking just one.

Moore was 2-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Cascino was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI and Rossi was 2-3 with 2 RBI's.

The Roadrunners return to action Saturday as they take on NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
