WILLIAM PATERSON CRUISES BY RAMAPO

MAHWAH, NJ (Jan. 11, 2006) - Twin guards Lori and Luci Custis (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) each poured in six points as William Paterson opened with a 20-0 run and held off New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Ramapo, 70-39, on Wednesday evening at the Bill Bradley Center.

Luci Custis finished with 13 points and nine rebounds while Lori Custis has 12 points and five caroms for the Pioneers (8-6, 4-3 NJAC), who won for the fifth time in six games. Freshman forward Asia Johnson (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) added career highs of 11 points and eight rebounds for William Paterson, which owned a 55-31 edge on the glass

Freshman guard Khiada Evans (Newark, NJ/Malcolm X. Shabazz) was the only player to reach double digits for the Roadrunners (5-7, 2-5 NJAC), scoring 11 points.

William Paterson forced Ramapo to miss its first eight shots and forced 10 turnovers before Evans converted a free throw with 11:13 remaining the first half. Senior center Lisa Fischman (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) hit the Roadrunners' field goal at the 10:24 mark to pull them within 20-3, but the Pioneers eventually stretched their lead to 27 points before taking a 35-10 halftime lead.

Ramapo resumes action Saturday, Jan. 14 with a 1 p.m. contest at NJAC rival Rowan. William Paterson returns to action the same date and time at home against league foe New Jersey City.
