ROADRUNNERS OPEN NJAC SEASON WITH WIN

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College women's soccer team played host to Rutgers Newark in their opening NJAC match-up of the 2005 season. The Lady Roadrunners earned a 4-1 victory improving to 5-2-1 overall, 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers Newark falls to 3-3-1 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

The game remained scoreless until the 4th minute when junior midfielder MARYBETH LYONS (Old Bridge, NJ) hit the back of the net for the first time this season off a cross from sophomore LINDSAY KOTULA (Manalapan, NJ) giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Raiders tied that game at the 11:12 minute mark with a goal by sophomore Alex Gastulo (Little Falls, NJ), assisted by Erin Marshall (Mt. Laurel, NJ), ending the first half tied at one.

Ramapo's KOTULA posted her second goal of the year at 53:04, scoring what turned out to be the game winner, unassisted, and senior JESSICA STOVEKEN (Lyndhurst, NJ) added insurance just over ten minutes later with a goal of her own. AMY KETCHERSID (Point Pleasant, NJ) and KOTULA added assists to the goal and KETCHERSID worked alone to add Ramapo's 4th goal of the game at 64:33. The Roadrunners out shot Rutgers Newark, 14-5 in the 4-1 victory in Mahwah.

Senior goalkeeper CHRISTY TURNER (Ringwood, NJ) earns the win recording three saves with one goal against while sophomore goaltender Katie Hastings (Haddon Heights, NJ) posted seven saves with four goals against in the loss.

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, September 21st when they travel to the College of New Jersey for a 7:30 PM start.
