RAMAPO NOTCHES 2-1 VICTORY OVER ROWAN BEHIND PASTIGLIONE IN GAME 1, FALLS 5-0 IN GAME 2

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College softball team recorded a 2-1 victory over Rowan University behind junior ANDREA PASTIGLIONE (Southern California, CA) today in Mahwah. The Roadrunners improve to 28-11 overall, 10-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rowan falls to 23-12 overall, 9-6 in the conference.

Game 1: PASTIGLIONE ripped a two-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Profs which held for the remaining innings giving Ramapo the win. Ramapo fell behind, 0-1 in the top of the inning when rookie Kristin Wallace (Glassboro, NJ ) hit a single to left field to lead off and later came home on a single by sophomore Kim Ryan (Monmouth Jct., NJ).

PASTIGLIONE hit 1-3 with one run and two RBI while rookie LAUREN CASCINO (New Windsor, NY) went 2-3 with one run of her own. LISA RIZZO (Dumont, NJ ) posted Ramapo's third hit in the win going 1-2. For the Profs, Wallace posted one hit on three at bats with one run while Ryan went 1-2 with one RBI. Lauren Navarro (West Milford, NJ ) hit 2-3 in the loss.

Sophomore pitcher MARISSA MARINO (Wayne, NJ ) pitched the complete game earning the win improving to 9-5. MARINO struck out one, and let up five hits with one run, unearned. Junior Colleen Oswald (Turnersville, NJ ) records the loss in six innings falling to 12-6. Oswald struck out four and walked none in the loss.

Game 2: Rowan University scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth as Sara Dickey (Skippack, PA ) singled to center to score Kim Ryan (Monmouth Jct., NJ) who reached on a walk. The Profs scored again in the 5th as Kim Wallace (Glassboro, NJ ) ripped a home run to left field. In the bottom half of the 6th they scored three more runs on two hits and two Roadrunner errors. Katie Lavin (Sewell, NJ ) reached base on a bunt single, advanced to second on an error, stole third and advanced home on and error. Senior Nicole Panikiewsky (Carteret, NJ ) doubled to center to score Jamie Assini (Deptford, NJ ) and Wallace who walked and reached on an error respectively.

Senior pitcher Dickey pitched a complete game shutout, only giving up two hits. She had four strikeouts and no walks. Panikiewsky was 2-4 with a double and two RBI's.

Rookie LAUREN DEBOLD took the loss for the Roadrunners, giving up 5 hits in three innings of work. She gave up four runs, one earned with one strikeout. Her record now stands at 5-1.

The Roadrunners now wait for the NJAC Softball Tournament seeding to see when they will play in the playoffs.
